Saudi petrochemicals giant SABIC has shipped fertilizer through NEOM's Oxagon port for the first time, giving the company another export route just when shipping disruptions are making it harder and more expensive to move goods.
SABIC's selling and distribution costs jumped by SR916mn ($244mn) compared with a year earlier as regional shipping disruptions forced the company to change how it moves products.
The shipment shows why having another export route matters. Instead of relying entirely on established routes, Saudi companies have more options to get their products to customers.
Located within Oxagon, the Port of NEOM is already handling commercial cargo, with shipping connections and logistics partnerships expanding.
And its importance goes beyond NEOM itself.
The port could help Saudi factories reach international markets, particularly when traditional shipping routes face disruption.
Oxagon was built with Saudi Arabia's industrial future in mind. Now, its port is finding a role in solving today's problems.
